Our Story — Then & Now

Helping people make a material difference every day.

Shakespeare has manufactured performance polymers, filaments, and antenna systems from the same Columbia campus since 1897. Every division shares the tooling, the test floor, and the materials science group behind it.

What began as a single mill is now four divisions serving a broad range of markets — still guided by the same idea: the materials and electronics inside a product should be the last thing anyone has to worry about.

What Drives Us

Mission. Vision. Promise.

  • Mission

We create and manufacture solutions that positively impact lives through sustainable science.

  • Vision

To be the trusted partner to our customers: rethinking and reinventing solutions for tomorrow’s challenges.

  • Promise

As engineers and experts in how things work, we build the most reliable solutions essential to the most reliable products. By using material science to push products and processes to their greatest problem-solving potential, we promise our customers a plan and partnership they can rely on, every time.

S.C.I.E.N.C.E.

Seven values, one operating system. This is how we hire, how we run the floor, and how we treat the people who trust our materials.

  • Safety-Minded

We protect our people first, and we do not ship a product we would not stand behind ourselves.

  • Customer Focused

Every formula, antenna, and assembly starts with the problem the customer actually has to solve.

  • Integrity Always

We say what we will do, then we do it — on the floor, in the lab, and with the people who buy from us.

  • Expect Excellence

Good enough is a moving target. We measure, we test, and we keep raising the bar.

  • Never Stop Innovating

Materials science is a long game. We keep a pipeline of better chemistries and better processes in motion.

  • Community Conscious

The plants sit in real towns. We show up for the people next door, not just the customers far away.

  • Extreme Bias for Action

Decisions belong close to the work. We move, we learn, and we correct in the open.

F.A.S.T.E.R.

Driving change with purpose. To move forward, we must go F.A.S.T.E.R., not just in speed, but in how we Focus, Align, Simplify, Transform, Execute, and Reinforce every part of our strategy. Our business demands a faster pace to unlock our full potential and win together.

  • Focus

Put the work that moves the business first, and keep everyone looking at the same target.

  • Align

Connect the lab, the floor, and the customer so no one is solving a different problem.

  • Simplify

Strip the extra steps. Complexity is a tax the customer should never have to pay.

  • Transform

Change the process when the process is the bottleneck — not just the product.

  • Execute

Plans earn their keep on the line. We ship, we measure, we hold the date.

  • Reinforce

What works gets written down, taught, and expected the next time.
